Postcards

Here you will find what's left of my postcard collection. I gave many away over the years, so I don't even remember most of the ones I used to own. I'm actually surprised that I kept as many as I have, so I've decided to post them here.

To make things easier, I've categorized postcards by album release. Each album section will list and show (front and back) the ones I still have. I've also tried to remember as many postcards that I used to have to the best of my ability, which will follow after the ones I've posted. Details on those will be sketchy and minimal at best. Any "random" postcards I still have that can't be fitted into an album category will be listed after all the album sections.

All postcards shown here are original and vintage produced postcards. A few of these are very difficult to come by these days, some impossible, but quite a few of these you should still be able to find without much problem.

This is by no means a full or complete list of postcards. What I'm showing or listing from memory is some of the ones I have or used to have. There are (and were) a lot more out there than some of you realize.

Note: Most vintage mass market produced postcards are worth nothing - even now. So if you decide to collect postcards, you should only really be paying double the amount of their original value... so basically nothing.

THE KICK INSIDE:

1. Title: Kate Bush - The Kick Inside
Photo: Pink Leotard (Full Colour) Gered Mankowitz photograph
    Catalogue #: Nil
    Manufactured by: EMI Records 1978
    Made in England
    Type: Promotional Only Release
    Size: 4" x 6"
Notes: First issue promo postcard release for The Kick Inside. The front of the postcard is exactly the same as the second issue promo postcard, but the blurb on the back is totally different.

2. Title: Kate Bush - The Kick Inside
Photo: Pink Leotard (Full Colour) Gered Mankowitz photograph
    Catalogue #: Nil
    Manufactured by: EMI Records 1978
    Made in England
    Type: Promotional Only Release
    Size: 4" x 6"
Notes: This is a second variant promotional postcard for The Kick Inside. The first release had the same front artwork, but the back info was geared more towards Wuthering Heights only.

KATE BUSH CLUB:

1. Title: Kate Bush
Photo: Live shot of Kate on tour by photographer Pete Still (Full Colour)

    Manufactured by: Photogeny
    Made in England
Type: Official Kate Bush Club postcard (available through the club only)
    Size: 4½” x 6¾"
Notes: This postcard was only available through the KBC back in the late ‘70s. Early club items such as postcards, and even photos, are becoming increasingly rarer these days.

LIONHEART:

1. Title: Kate Bush Lionheart
    Photo: Letterhead Image
    Catalogue #: None
    Manufactured by: EMI/Harvest Canada, 1978
    Made in Canada
    Type: Promo Only

1. Title: Babooshka
    Photo: Video Shot (Full Colour)
    Catalogue #: PC48
    Manufactured by: Cult Images
    Made in England
    Type: Mass Market
    Size: 4" x 6"
Notes: Although this postcard was manufactured in the late '80s, I thought it made more sense to put it under the heading for Never For Ever.

MINI LP:

1. Title: Kate Bush
Photo: Cropped version of the Mini LP cover (Full Colour)
    Catalogue #: TCS 810
    Manufactured by: Trend Carte Souvenirs
    Made in E.E.C.
    Type: Mass Market

HOUNDS OF LOVE:

1. Title: Hounds of Love
    Photo: Album Cover (Full Colour)
    Catalogue #: LE 8 - KATE BUSH
    Manufactured by: Limited Edition
    Made in England
    Type: Mass Market
    Size: 4" x 6"
Notes: 1st UK issue of this postcard

2. Title: Hounds of Love
    Photo: Album Cover (Full Colour)
    Catalogue #: Nil
    Manufactured by: Limited Edition
    Made in England
    Type: Mass Market
    Size: 4" x 6"
Notes: UK Reprint. Photo is a considerably lighter colour. No catalogue number on the back and the printing is considerably lighter. No copyrigh logo next to the manufacturer's name on this reprint.

3. Title: Hounds of Love
    Photo: Single Cover (Black/White)
    Catalogue #: 112 KATE BUSH
    Manufactured by: Le Terme
    Made in France
    Type: Mass Market
    Size: just over 4" x 6"
Notes: 1st France issue of this postcard. The second and third issue of this postcard differs... specifically with size and finish. Although it doesn't show well here at all, this one has a plastic laminated film on the surface, which also tends to get tiny air bubbles in it. Second and the third issue postcards just have a standard semi-gloss type finish to them. Also, this postcard is a quarter of an inch longer. If you look at the second and third issue postcards below this one, you'll notice that they've literally been cropped right at the "H" in Bush and at the "E" in love - but on this one there is a noticeable gap between the letters and the edge itself. The back of the postcard is virtually the same as the other ones.

4. Title: Hounds of Love
    Photo: Single Cover (Black/White)
    Catalogue #: 112 KATE BUSH
    Manufactured by: Le Terme
    Made in France
    Type: Mass Market

Notes: 2nd France issue of this postcard

5. Title: Hounds of Love
    Photo: Single Cover (Black/White)
    Catalogue #: 112 KATE BUSH
    Manufactured by: Le Terme
    Made in France
    Type: Mass Market

    * France Reprint. Exactly the same as the France 2nd issue, except "Kate Bush" isn't written on the front of this one.

6. Title: Hounds of Love (Le Disque De L’annee)
    Photo: Album Cover (Full Colour)
    Catalogue #: 3 - Kate Bush
    Manufactured by: Phantom
    Made in France
    Type: Mass Market
    Size: 4" x 6"

OTHER “HOUNDS OF LOVE” ERA POSTCARDS I USED TO HAVE:

Running Up That Hill
*Single Cover/Full Colour. Exactly the same as the France one (#6), except it was borderless. I can't remember if this was from the UK or Canada, but it was a mass market release.

Running Up That Hill
* Full Colour and exactly the same as #7 in my above list, except it was a full picture instead. Mass market release.

Running Up That Hill
* Same postcard as #7 but in full black and white, with the addition of the single cover artwork along the bottom.

Hounds of Love
*Album Cover/Full Colour. I believe this one was made in Canada.

Hounds of Love
* Single Cover. Black/White. Made in England

The Big Sky
* From what I recall it had a silhouette of Kate against the moon on the front (like you see at the end of the video). Can't remember where it was made, but this was a promo.

THE WHOLE STORY:

1. Title: The Whole Story
    Photo: Album Cover (Black/White)
    Catalogue #: Nil
    Manufactured by: ?
    Made: ?
    Type: Mass Market
    Size: 4" x 6"
*Although the back is void of info, I'm assuming it was made in the UK as that's where I got it from.

THE SENSUAL WORLD:

1. Title: The Sensual World
    Photo: Single Cover (Black/White/Blue)
    Catalogue #: 4/1056
    Manufactured by: D'Tag 7
    Made in E.E.C.
    Type: Mass Market
    Size: 4" x 6"

2. Title: The Sensual World
    Photo: Album Cover (Black/White)
    Catalogue #: X381
    Manufactured by: World Postcards Inc.
    Made: ?
    Type: Mass Market
    Size: 4" x 6"
    * Again, I'm assuming this one was manufactured in the UK as that's where I got it from.

3. Title: Aspects of the Sensual World
    Photo: EP/Single Cover (Black/White)
    Catalogue #: Nil
    Manufactured by: Columbia/CBS Records
    Made in USA.
    Type: Promotional release
    Size: 3.5" x 5.5"
*This was a strictly promo only release and not commercially available.

4. Title: The Sensual World
    Photo: Standard (Full Colour)
    Catalogue #: X189
    Manufactured by: Splash Ltd.
    Made in England
    Type: Mass Media
    Size: 4" x 6"
*Although this postcard came out around '89/'90, this wasn't a Sensual World era photo.

5. Title: The Sensual World
    Photo: Album Cover (Brown tones)
    Catalogue #: Nil
    Manufactured by: ??
    Made: ??
    Type: Promotional
    Size: 4" x 6"
    * I really can't remember where this one came from. It is a promo... I remember that much. It has release dates on the back for the album and the single. Although my scan doesn't show it very well, the picture is done in brownish tones.

6. Title: The Sensual World
    Photo: Single Cover (Black/White)
    Catalogue #: U718
    Manufactured by: Underground
    Made in England
    Type: Mass Market
    Size: 4" x 6"

7. Title: Kate Bush - The Sensual World
    Photo: Album Cover (Brown Colour)
    Catalogue #: Nil
    Manufactured by: EMI Records 1989
    Made in England
    Type: Promotional
    Size: 4" x 6"
    * This promotional postcard was only available in some versions of the UK press kit for The Sensual World.

OTHER “SENSUAL WORLD” ERA POSTCARDS I USED TO HAVE:

The Sensual World
*Single Cover. Black/White. It said "Kate Bush" in the upper right-hand corner in yellow, and "The Sensual World" in the lower left-hand corner, also in yellow. This one was a promo.

The Sensual World
*Single Cover. Black/White. Similar to #1, except the lettering was a different colour (either white or yellow). I also think this one came from the USA, but don't quote me on that.

The Sensual World
*Random close up of Kate’s face (not from TSW) with a black border along the top and bottom, with “Kate Bush – The Sensual World” in white lettering.

This Woman's Work (Single Cover)
*Can't remember where it was made or anything else. May have been a promo.

THE RED SHOES:

1. Title: The Red Shoes
    Photo: Album Artwork (Full Colour)
    Catalogue #: Nil
    Manufactured by: EMI Canada
    Made in Canada.
    Type: Promotional release
Size: Just over 3.5" x just over 5.5"
*This was a strictly promo only release and not commercially available. To my knowledge, there was also a secondary one that was very similar to this one. The front was exactly the same and the back was very similar, but with black lettering instead - it also had a bit more additional information. The second postcard was a promo mail-out that was sent to people who were subscribers of various music magazines (can't remember which ones). The front of the postcard has a glossy/shiny look to it - almost like a laminate finish.

2. Title: Rubberband Girl
    Photo: Single Artwork (Full Colour)
    Catalogue #: 1222 - KATE BUSH
    Manufactured by: ?
    Made in England
    Type: Mass Market
    Size: 4¼" x 6"

*There was also a giant fly poster of this produced in the '90s that measured 40" x 60". I had one at the time, but the edges eventually got super destroyed so I threw it away. Unless you've got gallery sized walls, and a proper way of displaying them besides using sticky tape, these posters aren't worth having.

3. Title: The Red Shoes
    Photo: Album Artwork (Full Colour)
    Catalogue #: Nil
    Manufactured by: EMI Holland
    Made in Holland.
    Type: Promotional release
    Size: Just under 4" x 6"
*This was a strictly promo only release and not commercially available. It's also a pretty rare one to come by these days. The front has the album artwork, similar to the Canadian promo, but minus the text.  The back has a release date and a bit of info, which I unfortunately cannot translate. The front of the card has a shiny look to it, similar to a laminate finish.

AERIAL:

1. Title: King of the Mountain
    Photo: Single Cover (Full Colour)
    Catalogue #: Nil
    Manufactured by: EMI
    Made in England.
    Type: Promotional release
    Size: 4" x 6"
    * I got this one via a friend. It has the Aerial cover art on the back, but it's impossible to see. Very light.

2. Title: Aerial (4 postcard set)
Photo: Album cover + others (Full Colour)
    Catalogue #: Nil
    Manufactured by: Columbia Records
    Made in USA.
    Type: Promotional release
    Size: 4" x 6"
*I scanned the back of one postcard only since the info is identical on all of them.

OTHER "AERIAL" ERA POSTCARDS I USED TO HAVE:

Aerial
*Album Cover/Full Colour. This was another promo release which I gave away to someone. It was put
out by EMI and differed on the back to the one in the USA 4 postcard set.

BOX SET POSTCARDS:

1. Title: A Lioness At Heart
    Photo: Gered Mankowitz (Full Colour)
    Catalogue #: Nil
    Manufactured by: UFO Books
    Made in England
    Type: Limited to 1,500 made
    Size: 4" x 6"
*This particular postcard was only ever available through this box set.

2. Title: Never For Ever
    Photo: L.F.I. (Full Colour)
    Catalogue #: Nil
    Manufactured by: UFO Books
    Made in England
    Type: Limited to 1,500 made
    Size: 4" x 6"
*This particular postcard was only ever available through this box set.

TOUR OF LIFE:

Even though I already have these listed in another blog page with the tour programme, I thought I'd just add them here again. The tour programme came with three postcards and I only scanned in the back of one as they're exactly identical on each one. Each postcard measures 3¾” x 6"

 RANDOM POSTCARDS I STILL HAVE:

1. Title: Kate Bush
    Photo: Gered Mankowitz (Black/White)
    Catalogue #: A-C 643
Manufactured by: Editions/Humour a la Carte
    Made in France
    Type: Mass Market
    Size: 4" x 6"

2. Title: Kate Bush
    Photo: Gered Mankowitz (Black/White)
    Catalogue #: FC 130
    Manufactured by: Les Carte Classiques
    Made in France
    Type: Mass Market
    Size: 4" x 6"

3. Title: The Secret History of Kate Bush
Photo: Same as book cover (Full Colour)
    Catalogue #: Nil
    Manufactured by: Omnibus Press
    Made in England
    Type: Mass Market
    Size: 4" x 6"
*I got this at the same time as I… ummm… bought the book. I'm very surprised I hung onto this one.

4. Title: Kate Bush
Photo: Mankowitz '70s photo shoot (black/white)
    Catalogue #: Kate Bush-ISC1074
    Manufactured by: Immagginazione Stellare
    Made in Italy
    Type: Mass Market
    Size: 4" x 6"

5. Title: Kate Bush
    Photo: Random face shot (Black/White)
    Catalogue #: Kate Bush-ISC1073
    Manufactured by: Immagginazione Stellare
    Made in Italy
    Type: Mass Market
    Size: 4" x 6"

6. Title: Kate Bush
Photo: Babooshka - Schizoid performance from Dr. Hook (Full Colour)
    Catalogue #: X148 Kate Bush
    Manufactured by: Splash Ltd.
    Made in England
    Type: Mass Market
    Size: 4" x 6"

7. Title: Kate Bush
    Photo: Claude Vanheye (Black/White)
    Catalogue #: X255
    Manufactured by: Splash Ltd.
    Made in England
    Type: Mass Market
    Size: 4" x 6"

8. Title: The Lionheart Tour
    Photo: Babooshka image (Black/White)
    Catalogue #: 002
    Manufactured by: Bump Series
    Made in England
    Type: Mass Market
    Size: 4" x 6"
*Interestingly enough, there was also a standard sized wall poster that featured the exact same artwork as the front of this postcard, which was produced in the early '90s. There are some con artists out there who try and pass it off as an original tour poster from Kate's '79 tour - it's not. It's a '90s poster.

OTHER "RANDOM" POSTCARDS I USED TO HAVE:
*These are just some of the ones that I can remember having:

The Red Shoes
* This was a red postcard that only said "It's really happening to you" on the front in white lettering (same typeset as the album). This was a promo, apparently rare as I never saw another one of these ever again. No idea where it was made though.

Lionheart
*Album Cover/Full Colour. UK. I think this was a promo one. About one third of the postcard was black, and had "Kate Bush Lionheart" in gold lettering.

Common Ground
*Album Cover/Full Colour. UK Promo.

Two Rooms
*Album Cover/Full Colour. I think this might have been a U.S.A Promo.

Rocket Man
*Single Cover. Black/White. This might have been a promo, but I can't remember where from.

The Illustrated Collectors Guide to Kate Bush
*Full Colour. When the first issue of this book came out in 1991, it came with a promo postcard (while supplies lasted) that featured the same artwork found on the cover of the book. The back of the postcard was more of an info blurb for the book as I recall, but it was still classed as a postcard.

BEFORE THE DAWN:

Even though I took a quick photo of these for the tour merchandise blog page that I'm currently working on for BTD, I just thought I'd post these here as well, but in better detail. These were the only official postcards for Before The Dawn, and they were only available in the Rescue Kit tin box.
